Atlanta, GA – Jevon Dewand, the talented recording artist and producer, has officially claimed his first #1 spot on both the Mediabase and Billboard Gospel Airplay charts with his soulful, urban anthem, “Without You.” Featuring powerhouse vocalist Zacardi Cortez and backed by the production genius of Jazze Pha and Gasner the Artist, this track is a testament to collaboration and divine inspiration.

The song “Without You” was born out of Jevon’s personal journey through grief after the passing of his father, Moses M. Sims, in the summer of 2023. During his darkest moments, Jevon felt God speaking to him, urging him to create music that would uplift and inspire others. The result is his heartfelt 16-track album, Without You: There Would Be No Me (Black Smoke Music Worldwide), a tribute to his father’s legacy of love and generosity. The album’s artwork features a touching montage of photos of Mr. Sims, and interludes include snippets of their final conversations and prayers together.

Jevon credits his creative collective, the Trap Starz: Talent Revolving Around Purpose, for bringing the album to life. “We pour our hearts, pain, and struggles into every song,” he explains. “We listen to people’s stories so we can create music that feels personal and relatable. It’s crucial to reflect real-life experiences in our art so listeners can connect with it on a deeper level.”
The Trap Starz have faced their share of trials. Beyond the loss of his father, Jevon survived blood clots in his lungs and a shooting. Gasner the Artist endured a painful marriage and the tragic loss of his son to gun violence. Jazze Pha has also weathered his own storms. Together, they believe God brought them together for a greater purpose.
“God allowed me to go through these challenges to prepare me for my calling,” Jevon reflects. “I never imagined becoming a gospel artist, even though we all grew up in the church. But sometimes, God keeps calling until you finally answer.”
One person who answered the call was Kerry Douglas, CEO of Black Smoke Music Worldwide. Based in Houston, Douglas signed Jevon to his label and brought Zacardi Cortez on board to elevate “Without You” to new heights. The result is a powerful, emotionally charged hit that has spent an impressive 33 weeks on Billboard’s Gospel Airplay chart. The song recently surged 12% in spins, climbing from #3 to #1 for the week ending February 14, 2025.
“We all have a purpose, and though it may look different for each of us, our goal is the same,” Jevon says. “God is the pilot of this journey, and we’re about to land safely in the hearts of people everywhere.”
